How To Tell a Joke - Comedy vs. Cringe Clapter
SNL shows us why leftist "clapter" is cringe, not comedy - plus a compilation of my favorite comedians, Yuri ranked in the Top 10 Humor Substacks, and a shout out to my new Brazilian readers.
Comrades: Laughter is the best medicine in clown world.
The best comedy contains truth. It punches up with creative subversion. The greatest comedians are universal and timeless, appealing to audiences from all walks of life and eras. Laughter is the ultimate meritocracy. If people find you funny, you will pack concert halls. If they don’t, you will fade into irrelevance.
Clapter is leftist cringe - the opposite of comedy. The goal of clapter is not to elicit laughter, but to make a political statement that seeks applause for agreement. Over the past decade, predictable clapter “jokes” center around ORANGE MAN BAD, punching down at his peasant supporters, and YAS KWEEN LOOK AT ME I’M SO STUNNING AND BRAVE AND DIVERSE.
The most recent prominent example of cringe clapter was Saturday Night Live’s cold open on the Demoralized DIEvy League President Congressional Hearings. Instead of punching up at these powerful women embarrassing themselves, they chose to punch down at their questioner - MAGA Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. I could barely get through the video because I felt bad for everyone involved. Clapter only survives in studio audiences full of demoralized FUPAZ residents, clapping like obedient seals.
SNL is the Harvard of comedy shows. After churning out legends like Eddie Murphy, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell, none of their castmates over the past decade have any humor. As usual, the comments section is where the real action is. After many pile-ons at the official White House Channel, YouTube disabled the thumbs down button to protect the regime from getting ratio’d into oblivion:
My favorite comic, Tim Dillon, is one of a growing number of independent comedians who get more views than SNL. He makes me giggle like a little girl because he is a brash, irreverent, sarcastic, smart, sweet, crass, huggable teddy bear with a lovely Long Island accent. I didn’t even know he was gay until recently because he doesn’t make his comedy about his identity. In contrast, Bowen Yang was hired by SNL to fill two intersectionality boxes - Asian and gay. Most of you probably have never heard of him and you couldn’t pay me to watch him. I have paid to see Tim live and would do it anytime he’s in town.

This samizdat is currently ranked in the Top 10 Humor Substacks. The others are mostly Leftist clapter. The Grudge Report by Bess Kalb is one of the worst examples of clapter. She is a writer for Jimmy Kimmel whose claim to fame is whining about her victimhood and getting blocked by Trump, but is a trust fund kid who lived in a $4M house in LA. Strangely, I am listed below Substacks with far fewer readers. Should I stay in this category or move to another category like Education?

It's the same here in the UK. New comedy is controlled by leftists and left leaning orgs and is now devoid of real humor.
I've just finished Graham Linehan new book (writer of some of the most beloved UK comedies like Father Ted, IT Crowd, Black Books) and he talks about the woke capture of the entertainment industry.
Linehan is a remarkable bloke in that he pretty much lost everything and can't find work due to him standing up for women rights and fighting the trans bullies. One of the finest UK comedy writers cannot now carry on making great art - sad times indeed.
It's now an industry which is scared to offend and it now produces sanitized, cringey and safe humor which will only take the piss out of the correct "approved" demographics.
Bill Hicks and of corse Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Belushi and Ackroyd also. Give Blues Brothers and Trading Places another watch as they have come full circle with relevance. You should be in Humor and Education though man!
