How To Unplug from The Matrix
Information diet tips to maximize signal and minimize noise
Comrades: My New Years Resolutions are to go on an information diet and improve my sovereignty. Several Supreme Court justices pushed extreme COVID misinformation last week, demonstrating how much power The Matrix still has over them and by extension all of us. Here are a few tactics I recommend to unplug - welcome any suggestions in the comments section.
Physical: Sound in body, sound in mind. Go for a walk before and after work, try to reach 10,000 steps and 30 minutes direct sun exposure every day. 2x cardio and 2x strength workouts per week with sports as a supplement. Eat a balanced diet, drink a gallon of water, and sleep 8 hours. The Whole Life Challenge is great product for building these simple but powerful habits.
Financial/Lifestyle: Find ways to generate side income and develop a supportive community. In addition to this Substack, I offer career coaching for people looking to transition into non-technical roles at tech companies (details here). Tucker Max wrote a deeper dive on doomer optimism here and BowTiedBulls always has solid crypto/investing tips.
Phone: Shut off all ring/vibrate notifications except for calls. Use silent badges and banners for just a few apps like email and messaging. Set screen time limit for addictive apps or delete them. Put down the phone before 9AM or after 9PM and never take it into the bedroom - play music on a regular alarm clock instead.
Messaging: Use encrypted apps like Signal and Telegram. For Signal, rally a group of friends who are open minded and enjoy fun banter. You can join my group as a founding member here:
Big Tech alternatives:
Instead of Google, use Neeva
Instead of Gmail, use Protonmail
Instead of YouTube, use Rumble
Instead of Twitter, migrate to Gettr or Gab - I view Twitter as free entertainment of watching inmates at an asylum.
Instead of Amazon, support a local business. Leave them a good review and talk to the people who work there - you might even make a friend and become a regular! #betonmainstreet
Avoid all Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus)
Avoid CCP TikTok
News:
Avoid all corporate/government legacy media like NPR, BBC, CBC, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NYT, WP, and Fox (except Tucker)
Cut the cord and streaming services, treat all of it as agitprop
For a major event, wait a few days for proper analysis instead of getting caught up in headlines and hot takes
Top 3:
Telegram: Disclose.tv, COVID Red Pills, Jack Posobiec
Podcasts: Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, All-In
Comedy: Ryan Long, JP Sears, Tim Dillon - they have big shoes to fill with Bob Saget and Norm MacDonald passing far too soon
History: Geography Now, Count Dankula, Kings and Generals
Music: 80s, classical, epic soundtracks
Nonprofits: Project Veritas, Christopher Rufo, The White Rose
Substack: Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Alex Berenson, the indomintable el gato malo - there are many more but in general we should trust those who challenge power consistently and report facts with positive feedback loops
Good stuff, thanks. I turned off the American "news" for good in late 2014, disgusted that NPR was "reporting" every single day on the 2016 presidential election.
I'd add one Substack vital to the counter-Covidian narrative: El Gato Malo:

Great advice/insight. Didn't know there was non-tech side hustle possibilities in tech. Interesting
