Great... I haven't wanted to watch a modern film other than Sound of Freedom in quite a while. Now here's another one.

I already liked Mel Gibson as an actor, but his work as a director has been quite impressive.

Indeed, he is. "The Passion of the Christ" airs every Good Friday on a religious network. I am always blown away by how well-made a film it is, something that I did not appreciate when I saw it in the theatre nearly 20 years ago.

I SOBBED in the theater. Uncontrollable.... But I sobbed when Bambie's Mom got shot too.

A good director can invoke emotions thru their sorcery & illusion of movie magicks!

I still sob when I think of Bambi’s Mom being shot. : )

The two simple tools: Fear and Divide are all the same evil forces using again and again to take away everything from happy, satisfied, hard working smiling Humans! And they NEVER stop. Until the remaining Human hits them back hard! So hard that the evil forces are demolished. They are not brave, they are rather weak and stupid. Easy to eliminate them! Simply NEVER fall for FEAR and NEVER belive a word they want to force on you! You have to learn to think for yourselves from very early age!

Thanks very much, Yuri for this amazing teachiing lesson! We need it.

I loved it too. As a Lethal Weapon loving teen, I could never have imagined that Mel Gibson would direct one of the best foreign language movies. Check out Colombia's 'Embrace of the Serpent', the darkest colonial movie - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4285496/

I'll watch it this weekend. Thanks

Brace yourself, and ensure lights are off and its a silent time of day. It's slow disturbia, artistic and intelligent, eventually evil. If you need something more zesty next, check out Brazil's https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/

Haven't seen this film but I sometimes feel that I'm living - not through an apocalypse no - through a Cultural Death by a thousand cuts. Cuts made of Climate-economic-self-abuse, LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ, Race baiting, narcissists-are-us....need I go on? https://grahamcunningham.substack.com/

Great stuff. Thanks for pulling it all together in one post and presenting with satirical humor (my favorite!).

An interesting subtext to the movie is that the Priests have studied the sun for hundreds of years, and they know there will be an eclipse on that day.

The point of the human sacrifices was to make it appear that their actions caused it!

"See what we did, we caused the sun to be blocked-out!"

Hence, let's say that you knew the planet would warm some in the next few years, and you start telling people that THEY are the cause of it, when they knew it was a lie the entire time...

I'm surprised this wasn't pointed out in the article.

Knowing the weather is the first scam devised to control those whose memory is all too short after all.

Mel Gibson is a legend indeed.

Love the comparisons Yuri!

Always thought of that movie when the abortion issue is raised. People killing babies to save the planet from overpopulation. Not saying it's every abortion but I'm sure some on the left buy into it.

I saw the movie when it first came out, but will watch it again from the standpoint you describe.

In '79 and '80 I drove throughout southern Mexico and Belize exploring Mayan ruins. I thought Gibson did a fine job portraying the realities of the that culture.
