Happy 4th! This fine post reminds me that enjoying freedom of thought does not mean acceding to stupidity, avoiding principled disagreement, or having permission to be a needless jerk. To paraphrase President Obama, we all owe our countrymen the presumption of good faith. He said that the morning after Trump’s victory, which must’ve been the political low point for him. Whether he ever abided those words is not the point; they are pretty profound and worth considering, these days especially.

We are certainly living in a time where our Republic maybe being challenged like no other time in history because it is coming from so many fronts. And parts of the Declaration are as applicable now as they were then. We need to stay strong and focused while ignoring all the enemy is throwing at us.
