How To Rebuild a High-Trust Society
Yuri's reflections on restoring trust from the ground up - call to action at the end
Comrades: Society functions on trust.
When Yuri Bezmenov gave his famous speech 40 years ago, America was still a high trust society. He tried to warn us about the demoralization, subversion, and normalization. Now the country has fallen into a low trust society.
Imagine how a high trust society functions.
You trust your neighbors because they share the same citizenship, language, and principles as you, even though you may have differences in political or religious beliefs.
You trust in a handshake - no need for armies of lawyers to handle contracts and agreements.
You follow the laws because you trust that the judicial system will punish those who don’t.
You trust the military and police to establish law and order.
You trust your hard work to be rewarded with higher earnings and promotions through meritocracy.
You trust your bank to be a good steward of your hard-earned capital, not mismanaging risk or promoting a political agenda.
You trust your children’s schools and teachers to educate them with knowledge and skills to succeed, not indoctrination.
You trust that the food you eat and water you drink are nutritious and free of toxins.
You trust that products you buy are made with honest labor and quality you can depend on.
You trust that scientists follow the scientific method and conduct research without conflict of interest or errors.
You trust your doctor to do no harm and give you the best care and treatment.
You trust your spiritual leaders to stay true your religion’s foundational principles.
You trust that journalists are presenting accurate reporting and speaking truth to power.
You trust your vote to be counted and that it will hold your elected officials accountable for the taxes you pay them.
Most of these pillars of high-trust society have eroded in modern America.
What high trust societies remain in the world?
Small-town America, Scandinavia, Central Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. These high-trust zones are shrinking due low birth rates, but they have not yet succumbed to mass migration like urban America and western Europe. I always find it hilarious when libs rave about how great Japan is, but can’t articulate the real reason why it is a society deserving of marvel and emulation.
How can we rebuild high trust society?
Let’s take a bottom-up approach.
Build a strong nuclear and extended family.
Make friends who you trust as much as your family.
Mock and shame those too demoralized to reason with.
Vote with your wallet - support businesses that share your values.
Find problems and solve them together.
In every crisis lies opportunity. This is the largest opportunity in history. Half of the world’s largest economy is looking for trust.
American exceptionalism has always been about small bands of scrappy people building.

Friends. Perhaps living in Canada has made having friends more difficult. I find it extremely challenging to look another man in the eyes these days. Whether within my faith community, my work community, or my family there is this socialist attitude. Deservingness, entitlement, government (i.e. taxpayer) reliance, conformity, lack of work ethic, laziness, dullness, political alignment without reasons or with bad reasons, and a community that recently shunned me for not conforming. People are afraid or something--I don't know. Hard to relate to the modern person after raising a family on a shoestring, home schooling them, saving for their education, working more than one job at a time, having faith, eschewing societal gyrations and fads...there are not many people left that I can stand. Call me arrogant but I want to be around people who are better than me, or people who are interested in what I can offer and want to stand beside me.
Stop using the term, nuclear family. The term you are looking for is "traditional family" which consists of the clan, not just the family. The traditional family included everyone from children to great great grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins. That was a strong family.
The nuclear family is adrift alone, just mother, father, and 1 child. There are few friends and no close family members.
The nuclear family is doomed... trust me.
