One more added observation: I live in a small rural town in GA, but it has a college. Several years ago, a brand new female college prez announced her intention of making it the "liberal arts" school of GA. Without the intervening history, I now experience this sort of thing in my small town in GA. We, however, have a secret weapon. We ridicule and laugh at them mercilessly. It works well.

Age-ing myself a bit. Moved to San Francisco at the end of the 80's. What an amazing city it was. In around 2004 I just had this sinking feeling. Who are these people? What is this? When did eating a tasty meal become a badge of honor? Wait. Didn't I see that guy in the skinny jeans and the Free Mumia shirt in dockers and a tucked polo shirt in the Marina last year?
In the snap of a finger my thrift stores were now owned by sneering, supercilious hipsters who raided the real thrift stores for the best merch and pushed prices up massively. In the Mid 90s we were hanging with the original cypher punks and having parties mingling with the Burning Man set when it was not even known enough to be uncool. I remember when nobody knew what a "tech worker" was and it was a profession with zero politics, true libertarians running it and not a peep of politics, still even some garage startups. I used to shop at Rainbow grocery with the aging lesbians and passing through from Humboldt hippies, in peace and quiet. There was nothing cool about it - just grocery shopping.
Suddenly in '06 everyone cool was in there shopping after dropping their dog off at the doggie hotel that had opened next door. They were there in their save the poor t-shirts, ironic mustaches and horned rimmed glasses just stocking up from the bulk tofu bins while their dog was getting a spa treatment and a pawdeecure for $600. It probably offers anti-racism training for dogs, and equity and inclusion programs to get more monitor lizards in tech roles these days.
Grown men, either egolessly driving their high school beater despite their riches or a now toxic turgid and raging ferrari, were replaced by boy dorks like Page and Brin riding around like six year olds on their whatever those fat wheeled scooters with the vertical handlebar were called. Can't remember.
By 2008 everyone who lived in the Marina and Cow Hollow suddenly transitioned from Iraq Hawk, Bush Republican to an MDMA gobbling "burner" and a champion of the poor and sustainability. That was at least when lefties were still trying to end poverty as their pet virtue signaling project. Now they prefer destroying their children and their country's future by instituting a racial caste system that seeks to overturn our entire legal order and drive the final nails into our financial coffin. One such Republican turned Burner is a friend who moved his young family to Portland. I didn't know he had, "turned". I called him during the riots and said, "Hey! What is going on there? Inmates running the asylum or what!?!? You guys okay?" He gave me a, "We're fine. It is the feds that are here messing things up and driving around instigating in their vans." I thought they were they to protect the citizens and federal property, but uh okay. It was a remarkable transition from Iraq war cheerleader to vanguard of the resistance. Bets on whether a Ukraine flag is flying?
As for SF, by 2008 I was done. Came to NY hoping population 8+ million could withstand the Rise of The Creative Class. Nope. NY was gone when I got here. Anywhere with a population above 5000 is probably gone. "Oh my God? I'm all like so totally certain that I am moving to Cold Spring? At least like a weekend house? Yeah? We can like do mushrooms and LSD and turn prayer wheels for equality and end oppression? Oh my God? Yeah? You remember that hot guy that like runs a high frequency trading firm? Yeah? Like he might come and bring some of his cute friends? One of them is like black? How cool is that that there might be a black guy there? I think he is going to give us a privilege cleansing after we white shame ourselves and renounce our roof deck for the local tribes and their spirit elders? How rad is that? Anyway, like it is going to be a Pride theme? Brad is going to come as Dr. Strangelove but be all like totally like RuPaul'd out while sitting on a missile? - like a total like freedom fighter? At any rate, there is no running from this. I was in Nashville last August and there are entire neighborhoods that are bugman central. That Louis CK zombie coffee shop was the nail on the head.

Going by my old haunts when I lived in the capital, in the long long ago, it's only middle class whites and "organisers" and "spokespersons" of the yellow, jewish and black variety who holler about stupid stuff like whether shit-curls are cultural appropriation or not (disregarding that "cultural appropriation" is power speak, and does not exist).
It would seem to me that the darker the skin and the more structured and non-individualist the culture, the greater the resistance against woke ideas.
