Re Starmer, Harris, & their ilk; I would like to know how easy it will be for them to block / hide / censor, or otherwise manipulate comments. Substack appears to allow writers a lot of options as to how they manage comments - anywhere from a free-for-all, to a paywalled / read-only, writer-censored & moderated (a la The Free Press) “forum“, where comments (and commenters) can disappear with out a trace. More transparency is needed on the part of substack re how comments are handled.

Starmer already turned off comments on the first post.

I saw that too!!!😆 So much for 'free speech'.

Keep up the fantastic work, Comrade Yuri! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

"AI and leftists can’t meme because they lack humor and creativity."

AI and leftists are terrified of accidentally blurting out the truth, and this is why they cannot be free and open with humor and creativity the way people on the right can.

The best memes are funny exactly because they are telling a forbidden truth.

Laughter is a way of releasing the tension between social opprobrium and obvious facts. That tension itself is the mainspring of humor.

So the real reason that the left can't meme is that the left is dedicated to suppressing the truth, and that just isn't funny.

The Left must also walk in lock step. They must/needs look to each other to see if this or that meme is appropriate or is it worthy of their scorn. Individual thinking has gone the way of the floppy disk.

I already, swiftly, blocked Starmer and Harris. Regretting it now, I could have given them a piece or two of my mind. Perhaps I should unblock them? Meanwhile, I am of a melancholy bent but I REFUSE to believe substack will be destroyed. If money is an issue Elon might swoop in and save us. 😌

I just looked, Jane, and Starmer has, indeed, blocked comments. Uh, who wants to tell him that THAT is what Substack is about???

I understand your viewpoint completely, really I do. But for me Harris makes me sick to my stomach and Starmer has a large responsibility for the terrible state the UK is in right now. He's not a leader, he's a coward. I have ancestry (scottish grandparents who emigrated to the US) and so it's personal for me. All of this to say I don't wish to waste my time and energy communicating with them. I have every confidence you will write truths to them. 🤗

Julinthecrown's avatar

Nah, I'm with you in not wasting my time. I don't have that many good years left to be tilting at the likes of Starmer-windmills. 😉

Eventually substack will be destroyed by the anti-free-speech pervs. It is inevitable as someone will pay someone big bucks to sabotage the whole shebang. We are, after all, in the age of depopulation and that requires no truth and 100% lies.

the big business model in influencers is to build a huge following and then sell out, so you may be right. However, I hope that they won't bring down Substack and even if they do, free speech will migrate to somewhere else...it always does.

Julinthecrown's avatar

IMO the true free speech-ers have been smart enough to find different, more clever ways to get what they want. The big business model influencers, the Left, the Dems, etc move according to a monolithic entity - slow, bureaucratic, unimaginative. Free speech-ers can work alone, are nimble and creative.

Think: American revolutionaries and Britain. Take THAT, Keir Starmer

Or something like Amazon shutting down the tech infrastructure of Parler back in Jan ‘21 “to save democracy”

JasonK's avatar

It’s what I remember every time I’m tempted to buy something from Amazon…that what I would actually be doing is feeding the same beast that did all that in exchange for convenience. Not worth it friends.

And the crap pulled by Patreon.

Indeed. We have already seen efforts made toward that end.

Yuri, how you manage to maintain your humor and STILL break out the cat 'o nine tails (as needed) is a testament to someone who has built a mighty fortress against the forces against us. I have to say, one reason I have been 'reluctant' to push further forward with Substack is: 1) the threat of censorship, 2) not really knowing how to manage a page and 3) fear of being redundant. Further, I spent the past 15+ years writing blogs, posts, etc. with significant research. I even wrote a book! None of them really ever saw the light of day. I was just chastised by someone I consider a real gift to Substack for NOT doing more on this platform. :(

Your piece here encouraged me somewhat. You're a gem. I need to ditch some of those I currently follow as a paid subscriber and FINALLY throw some coins your way. You really deserve it. Thanks for the laughs and the pointed commentary. Peace in the New Year, comrade!

BRILLIANT MEMES! My fav is one of the first in your post - the guy who's with another girl but his head is turned by Substack. Btw, I clicked on Keir Starmer's link to see what the comments were on his Substack - there were 2 comments according to the 'count' - but then I see that he has blocked all comments. 🤣🤣🤣 What a spaz!

One day I found hamas' "rules for media activists" published on "Palestinian Interior Ministry" facebook page from 2014 where they said how "journalists" HAVE TO cover the 2014 Gaza war. It was in Arabic. There were rules of "call everyone a civilian" or "don't describe the launching rockets towards Israel". I republished it and translated in English on X, and this post became viral. The next day, my account on X was suspended, and the page of the Facebook post with these rules was deleted. So yeah, there is English language world, and there is the real one - in Arabic. Fck X, glory to Substack!
