I used to manage a global team which included several Chinese guys based in Shanghai. One guy in particular was very western, loved the NBA, etc. When he visited the States he was very open about how much he despised Mao and the communist party but when I would visit him in China he would never discuss it. One time I mentioned something in passing at a Starbucks of all places he got noticeably uncomfortable. That was the first time I realized what it truly meant to live in a authoritarian dystopia. The eyes and ears are always there, even if they aren’t, they are in your mind...and that’s the point.

Fuck the commies.

I watched the news of Tiananmen as an 18 year old in the American Consulate TV room in Lusaka Zambia. The room was packed with Zambian men who watched on the edge of their seat. At each clip of gunfire or shot of wounded or dead protesters they shouted at the screen as if it was happening to them. They left the room later ready to tear something down.

Well done, Yuri.

You did have me fooled until now: I remember Mr Yuri Bezmenov giving a lecture on subversion of another country by means described by the ancients and put into full use by communists. The fact that you have roots in China and are so effectively teaching us about communism’s deadly folly, does not come as too much of a surprise.

Keep up your valiant efforts in this war for civilization.

I listened to your podcast with your father, Yuri, and thought of this...

I just finished Stalin’s War by Sean McMeeken, where he recounts that FDR was a pathetic supplicant to Stalin during WW2. I don’t know if FDR was a commie, but I’m not sure how a commie as president would have acted differently.

McMeeken explains how FDR stabbed Chiang Kai-shek in the back at the behest of Stalin, and if the US had given Shek even a fraction of the support they gave Stalin, he could have, and likely would have, defeated Mao.

thank you for this great article. I have both last emperor and the Tibet movie. The pic of the young man in front of the tanks has been in my memory, forever. Unfortunately it seems the larger the country the more atrocities it can bring down on its citizens. Youth nowadays seems so lethargic. Would they stand up now to do this? I don't think so. Almost everyone I know turned woke.

Thank You to reminding all of us that Freedom is never FREE! All those heros who were mowed down on Tiananmen Square and in Hungary in 1956 all over the country and other places where the people just wantet freedom should be remembered. Ultimately the human spririt is wishing to be free - we never give up this basic need in our life. Unfortunately that crowd on the Square and in Budapest too were left on their own. If we were helped by the independent strong forces like USA - the spread of evil communism could have cut off and made human history much happier. I remember how much we were waiting for the American troops to come and help - but alas the Sovjet troops came back instead. It was stupid not helping the freedom loving and fighting for people. All other troubles we have now could have beed avoided. Now we are not that free here in America either. And than what? There is no more America to save the world. But there is a hope. We the People! And we should never get complasant, we much watch and be vigilant not to loose our Freedom ever again! The communist\evil forces are like poisen ivy. If you dont unroot every singe bit - it grows back fast and takes over everything. Lets learn from the past and DO NOT REPEAT it!

Currently reading the Peoples Trilogy 3 Books Collection Set By Frank Dikötter (Mao's Great Famine, The Tragedy of Liberation, The Cultural Revolution) as a suggestion by @greenleapforward (who has a witty substack). There is no shortage of historical atrocities people commit against other people. Those atrocities are the norm, not an exception.

The first book of the series is titled “the tragedy of liberation.” On the cover is a Chinese symbol. I had to ask a Chinese colleague what it meant and he told me it would translate to mean “revolution,” but that the symbol is not commonly used and would literally translate into “murder your enemy.”

P.S. I enjoyed the Pelosi kneeling image.

Great post, confirmed by the fact that the comments are attracting CCP apologists looking to boost their social credit scores. I’ve heard the following is pretty effective at scaring them off:

Dear Robert and Jill,

Think of this whole thing as a castle with many doors. The doors are all each entryways to parts of the system; medical; tech; legislative; etc.

The doors are a vulnerability. The people and the contents of the castle are extremely vulnerable - that's why the castle is locked and fortified.

All you need is one crowbar (leverage) to pry open a crack in one of the doors and the pressure applied by others who are with you will bust it open.

Your knowledge of the medical corruption behind one of the doors is the prybar - and you have leverage.

Just crack open that ONE DOOR where the light from outside is shining in. Everyone will follow that.

You have no leverage at the "free speech" door. You will just be banging your head against it.

Once you, and others crack open - just that one door - your door - you can open all of the others - from inside the castle halls.

It's that simple.

Pry open the door with the leverage you have:

Your knowledge of how and what they are doing is false/unscientific and your powerful ability (leverage) to demonstrate what they "know" but are not telling the public.

...

Then you're in.

And it's what you make of it.

They'll kill you if you stay outside.

Don't parade around the castle.

Pry open the door.

.

I want to share the photos on Facebook. I'm a nobody, so initially my posts should get some traction before being removed. Plug "The Heavenly Man" autobiography of Brother Yun - great book. He suffered greatly at the hands of his fellow Chinese. His focus, however, has remained on the character and beauty of Jesus. Despite his tortures, there is no bitterness.
