Comrades: Graduation season is upon us.
Commencement addresses are a unique mix of optimism and real talk during a major life milestone. This year, Ivy Leaguers at Harvard and Brown will be subjected to pontification by Horse Fascist Jacinda Ardern and Insider Trader Nancy Pelosi, respectively. The University of Michigan applauded Dr. Mengele Fauci as he received an honorary degree, which is peak Stockholm Syndrome for someone who ruined their lives and billions of others.
Here is what Yuri would say to The Current Class about The Current Thing.
Comrades of the NPC University Class of 2022: Congratulations! Today you emerge from the comfortable womb of campus into the uncomfortable chaos of the real world. The expensive piece of paper you are about to receive says nothing about your value as a human being; these days it may be a negative signal that you are soft and have no grit. I am here to give you a rude awakening and pragmatic advice on making the most of this blessed opportunity we call life.
I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is that you have lived your entire life under subversion. 15 years before you were born, I gave an interview about how the foundational principles of America and Western Civilization were being eroded. Like a frog being boiled, you may not have noticed it but you should be feeling the heat now.
Your graduating class spent over half of your college career disrupted by unscientific, ineffective, neurotic mandates from incompetent Karen Bolshevik administrators. They coerced you to stay isolated at home and pay full tuition for Zoom classes while they raked in full salaries, restricted your breathing with a mask, and injected experimental drugs into your body. All for a disease that has a 99.9% recovery rate in your age group, which spreads regardless of how many masks and jabs you have. Thank your parents and your future selves for paying $300,000 for this farce. Hopefully you learned something other than the fact that you’ve been conned.
How did this happen? Due to irrational hysteria, we lost the ability to rationally evaluate risk/reward and use first principles. For 50 years, campuses have turned away from inquiry and embraced indoctrination. A North Korean defector observed that her Ivy League campus felt just like her home country. One Zoomer I know declined to be interviewed even anonymously for this samizdat because he feared retribution from potentially being discovered. The same fear pervades with a college professor, who moved his family away from their zombified campus town so they could live some semblance of a normal life.
Do you want America to turn into your campus? Take off your physical and ideological masks, so you can breathe and speak free from fear. Treat today as a milestone that you are a full adult and take full responsibility for your choices. The biggest risk is to stop taking any - Mitch Daniels’ commencement address at Purdue last year captures this unique moment well.
Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction”. That weighty mantle now falls onto you during this critical time. The flame of liberty has been weakened over 3 generations. Your entitled sellout boomer grandparents, apathetic irreverent Gen X-er parents, and whiny narcissistic millennial older siblings all allowed the Long March to proceed and capture our institutions. Protect your Generation Alpha younger siblings, as the state is seeking to take full control of them through grooming, jabbing, and masking from an early age.
Will you take a stand, or continue to be trampled? No one is coming to save you or this civilization, least of all the government. Only you can save yourselves and this country.
The good news is that you have the power to build a brighter future for yourselves and society. You only need to get two big things right for everything else to fall in place. None of it is easy, but nothing easy is worth doing and it’s entirely up to you.
The first is to find an incredible life partner and start a family. They will give you all the inspiration and meaning in life you need. The future belongs to those who show up. Settling down with the right partner will challenge you so that you can be the best version of yourself. You already indulged in 4 years of partying and hookup culture, most of which was an unfulfilling blur - don’t end up living in the suspended animation of that blur into your 30s. If you do your 20s right, your 30s and beyond will be even better. If you don’t, you’ll hit the wall and pass away surrounded by cats instead of grandchildren.
The second is to provide for your family in a way that is consistent with your values. Find a career that fulfills ikigai. Work for a company and a manager whose missions are aligned with yours. Better yet, start your own company and be your own boss. Figure out who actually has your best interests at heart and who is just using you to advance their agenda. Life is too short to spend most of your waking hours doing something you don’t enjoy. Find your north star, then put your heart and soul into reaching it.
Everything else compounds if you maintain excellent habits. Always be building. It’s never been easier to build companies, communities, and content. Build with code and build with your bare hands. Build spiritual and financial wealth. Have something to bring to the table, have goals to work towards, and have joyous occasions look forward to. Put your phone down and unplug from the matrix. Get 10,000 steps and an hour of outdoor time. Laugh, learn, and tell someone you love them every day.
No pressure. Don’t fuck this up. And wear sunscreen.
PS: This is the optimism of the world you were born into. Bring it back.
Ikigai is a new word and venn diagram for me. Thank you so much for the speech, Yuri. I will attempt to show it to my 1996 born son. He's optimistic that the 3D gaming model printing and painting business he is trying out will be successful in hard times...( your older speech I occasionally try to sneak into messenger to friends). He's also fairly sure his Mom is a tinfoil hat wearing, occasionally correct, but fatalistic weirdo...
I agree with all the scrumptious advice, except wear sunscreen, that crap is full of toxic chemicals!
