The satire about how the counterfactual scenario would play out was pretty accurate, except that you made Ibram Kendi sound far more rational and articulate than he actually is. If you write in the voice of Kendi in the future, I would suggest that you first inhale paint thinner for about 10 minutes and maybe get a heavyweight boxer to hit you in the head a few times, just to get yourself in a sufficiently retarded frame of mind. Once you're drooling on yourself and having trouble remembering your own name, you should be able to write with logic reminiscent of the great anti[white]racist doctor. But otherwise, you pretty much nailed it! This is what "decolonized" hockey looks like!

Satire is often closer to the truth than the 'objective' reporting.

This satire is so incredibly sad, because it depicts a murder taking place in front of thousands of witnesses, and the witnesses ignore what they saw, believing what they are told they saw, instead.

I recall hearing the news last weekend that "A man" was arrested in connection with the freak accident that resulted in the death of a hockey player. Was Harry Potter a documentary? Are there Wizards in England casting spells that caused Matt Petgrave to do this? "A man?" WTH?

I played ice hockey and enjoy watching it. I was speechless and stunned when I saw what I considered murder, since it was deliberate and I think in all of hockey history there was never so deliberate an action to purposefully harm another player. He could have easily just continued his forward motion and body checked him.

And yes, if the roles were reversed, everything you satired if not more would be occurring!

Agreed. As a lifelong hockey player myself, that was a deliberate murder and in now way accidental....a magnificent and enjoyable sport now ruined....

This => "Davis declared: “Matt Petgrave is a hero like George Floyd. He will accelerate our progress for the NHL to become the most vibrant, diverse sports league in the world.” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman concurred with Davis, emphasizing “Yas Kween Kim!”" You killed it. ;)

I just found the video and watched it. (I'm not a twitter account holder.)

The incident happens really quickly, so you have to watch to catch what happens. I'm not very knowledgeable about hockey, but what I saw is in some ways worse than an intentional hit - it was *instinctive.* As in, Petgrave lacks impulse control.

However, when I put his lack of impulse control together with his reputation and record for dirty playing, "intentionality" does creep in.

Either way, this guy does not belong on the ice.

Horrifying to watch Johnson struggle to get up after being hit and then leaving a pool of blood behind him on the ice as he is escorted away. He would have barely known what hit him.

Neckguards aren't mandatory in english hockey?

On the topic, I have only one thing to say:

You can take the negro out of the jungle but not the jungle out of the negro.

Wait Swedish hockey requires neck guards? No idea if you're joking about that.

Completely serious - it was a general rule until 2019 due to lethal accidents, one involving a junior league player. From 2019, it's optional and up to each player but they will be put on notice if they play without and may be sanctioned (banned from x number of future games f.e.), plus their player's insurance will likely want to have words.

Also, the clubs enforce it quite rigidly - no neckguard, you don't play.

You Swedes are such wimps on the ice lol. I've had a few Swedes take umbrage at me for my countrymen's propensity to engage in fisticuffs.

"It's a clear violation of the rules! You're not supposed to punch! That's why it's a penalty!"

"Yes, well, there are the rules, and then there are the *rules*...."

Nah, that's just the players that go to play abroad nowadays - they don't want to end up looking like Per-Erik Eklund or Börje Salming. The current audience echoes their sentiment.

Bush leagues, it can be a very different story, but in general, losing your temper and fighting is considered bad form and being a poor sportsman.

Want to throw down, go do MMA or something like that, is the feeling.

I played hockey for a dozen years. I got kicked in the ankle once. Opened me up so much i could have fit a golf ball in the hole. I could see the bone.

But I never saw a hockey skate higher than an ankle, unless the guy got checked off his feet. Which, checking a guy off his feet (using my shoulder) was one of the most enjoyable things about hockey.

When I was younger, we played in a "no check" league with some older guys. We used to check the snot out of them and get in trouble. They of course were saying, "hey, I have to get up for work in the morning in one piece!"

I should probably find a "no-check" league now that I am back in my hometown, see about that, but more likely I will just skate a few times at the pond in town and play a pick-up game or two.

Sounds like a good idea. Skating and playing keep you limber and you get your cardio exercise. When we were young, we would play on a frozen lake or rent ice rinks when we were not in leagues. Opportunity to even skate has not presented itself for years now where we are. Good times.

When I was a kid I would often spend as much as 4-5hrs on the ice a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. Thinking about the sport now, it's the most like dancing, and like a balance between grace and brutality.

The same. We would play or just go skating as often as we could. There is nothing like sailing up and down the ice. That sums it up perfectly. I have played with and against some amazingly skilled "amateur" skaters and players. The pros are just amazing to behold.

I saw the video. It looked like a deliberate hit with his skate to me. Manslaughter is the lightest charge this player should be looking at. A murder charge would not be unreasonable.

Yet several thousand fans stood up and cheered for this killer. What the hell is wrong with these people?
