A friend of mine served as Aide-de-Camp to three star General Andrew Goodpaster who was Superintendent at West Point in the early 1980’s. Goodpaster had been personal assistant to Eisenhower in the last few years of his Administration and helped Eisenhower on his Farewell Address.

Goodpaster stated to my friend that Eisenhower originally wanted to warn the public of the military-industrial-CONGRESSIONAL complex. However, Eisenhower cut out that part of his speech because he felt that an expose of Congressional corruption would prevent Kennedy from being able to use Congress to control or throttle back the military-industrial corruption.

It is true history that should be reported and well-known, but isn’t !!

I've long been a fan of Eisenhower's farewell speech and the man himself. He was probably the last President that was not captured by the credentialed elite he so accurately described. In many ways, the end of his administration was the beginning of the end for the age of Enlightenment.
